    Beschreibung

Australian bushfires destroyed the habitat of our koalas, I liked Boo Knits Cuckoo Waltz shawl, but I thought adding mohair to the garter stitch sections would change the shawl to a more snuggly version, and use the hand dyed yarns in my stash in shades of silver grey and caramel brown. I played with the pattern, increasing the depth a little, as my double stranding of of lace weight wool and a silkmohair strand was still not a row gauge match, and this added pattern and row repeats to the lace section of the pattern worked in single strand of Fiberfic 4 ply sock yarn in limited colourway Koala in a gum tree (a bare cream with greys and light chartreuse speckles), and I added a beaded double stmohair border in branches lace pattern increasing the wingspan also. I used Mikuki 6/0 glass beads for the majority of the lace in gold and light teal silver-lined beads and a few rows of unlinked topaz colour, with another brand of glass beads in a heavier 3mm topaz colour on the bind-off edge.

Thank you Mary-Ann, so much of my wardrobe is in jewel tones (my work colleagues thought I was making something that would not flatter my complexion), but I have a fondness for coffee colours, latte and cappucino tones go well with pale teals and richer purples in my opinion. Even with more than 1000 glass beads, this shawl weighs less than 250gms, so is light and snuggly at the same time, perfect for our mild spring and autumn weather in West Australia.

Thanks Deborah, I have a monthly donation to ARC, to help feed the koalas and other wildlife effects by the summer bushfires on your side of the country.

Thank you Michelle, just need to wash and block it. I designed it longer, so that I can cross it over my chest and tie the ends at back waist, the mohair wraps around upper back and shoulders, lovely and squishy warm. I have some left over yarn may make a mohair stranded beanie for next year.
