    About

I've wanted to make socks for so long and was inspired by the Winwick Mum sock-a-long Facebook group which is very supportive. This basic sock pattern has lots of video tutorials. It's still challenging the first time and they came out a bit bigger than expected (despite following the tension swatch tutorial) and most of my shoes did not fit as thicker than shop bought socks so I'm using them for walking boots! I'm really pleased with them though and already got the bug and trying to use up the yarn with helical stripes in a smaller pair for my grandson.....watch this space!
NB Kitchener toe needs more practise!

Other : I went up a size needle to 3mm as I usually knit quite tightly and cast on using 3.5mm so that the cuff wasn't too tight

Wow! I've always admired people who can knit socks! I'm always trying to find alternative ways of knitting/crocheting home socks, slippers and booties other than using 4 or 5 needles. These are absolutely adorable! Great colors too. :)

It must be a New Years bug, as I’m making my first pair of socks in 20 years!
I’m a bit rusty, but like you, Jane, the first sock is too big, so I’ve pulled it out to start again🙄

Great job Jane. I recently started to knit socks. My daughter had a Kitchener stitch reminder etched on a key ring for me. It really helps.

I like that idea! Actually, I can do the 4 step mantra (if I look it up as a reminder) but its getting the tension right and not getting the 'ears' at the ends which I struggle with! I could do with some ssk/k2tog markers

@Jane M: another clever crafter, Vix suggested a you tube tutorial Kitchener without ears which was worth a watch.

@Jacqueline W: Yes, I did consider doing the mosaic socks KAL but think I'll try to master the basic ones first

Great socks Jane. You’ve matched the two socks perfectly. I have the problem of knitted socks always being too big and too thick for my shoes so have been a bit put off. I must give them another go sometime. 🤔

Don't be put off, you can always use them around the house or extra layer in boots and there's probably someone you know who would appreciate a pair?! I'm using the leftovers for a pair of boot socks for my 5 yr old grandson!

@Jane M: yes, I’m sure you’re right. Maybe, when I’ve finished the 6 other projects I’ve just got lined up. 😂

@Helen B: yes, I know the problem...I can't knit fast enough for the things I want to do and my stash grows!
