I really enjoyed the challenge of creating this patchwork design using a summer weight yarn. The original design used Rowan Big Wool worked double to achieve the lovely textured colour combinations, but the finished cardigan was VERY heavy.
I used Debbie Bliss Dulcie yarn for this version, although it is a chunky yarn, it is lovely and light and those soft sherbert shades gave such a wonderful chalky colour palette.
I had to modify the pattern increasing the size of the squares by two stitches and 4 rows. I used 8mm and 10mm needles. In addition to this, I needed to add a neck band to the front to give it some added weight and structure, but I think the original would benefit from this too. I cast on 5 stitches and worked a K1 P1 rib alternating the colours in line with the colour squares. I used 8mm needles for this and stitched the band in place. I think this gave a lovely professional finish rather than picking up and knitting the band; a bit more time consuming, but worth it!
